There Will Be Blood

Outstanding performance by DDL. Completely transformed into the character. People see screaming and rage and think that’s a great performance but this is more than that. His mannerisms, slouching, limping, grinding his teeth. His voice. Again PTA is using character building to carry his movie. We are basically watching this guy going through life. The plot isn’t important. For me the plot is the most important thing in a movie. However, the way we are sucked into this guys story, makes the plot irrelevant. No matter what it is we are invested. Just like Phantom Thread. The pacing is a little slow. I did enjoy this movie a lot. I don’t consider PTA as a one of the greatest director but I’ve grown fond of his films recently as they are incredibly subliminal. The devil is in the details and he gets the details right. He tells a story through characters. At least in these couple of films with DDL in them. Good movie. Worth a watch.
