Yesterday, a Facebook account called "Fox 11 Reno", so named in order to mislead people into thinking it was a Nevada Fox News affiliate, erroneously identified a 77 year-old retired banker from Canada as the assassin of Charlie Kirk, in posts seen by millions of people. xAI's Grok amplified the mis-identification, naming the retiree as the suspect and "saying" he was arrested at the scene. This really not at all surprising travesty underscores the basic plausibility of this film (as if that were necessary), but also perhaps points toward a missed opportunity to explore the stranger, even uncanny possibilities in the premise, rather than settling for the predictable and underwhelming didactic route here. That said, the central ideas are effectively delivered* (the fair sprinkling of dissenting views amidst the idiocy is an admirable contribution toward verisimilitude) and it's better than average in the tense thrillery stuff, occasional yelling-at-TV moments notwithstanding.

* Light spoilers: the neighbour sequence was a good way of conveying the idea that of course these dumb dark elements have always existed, but social media has made them dumber and darker and shoved them into the light to buddy up and breed. The reference to The Troubles I am undecided about.
