Bohemian Rhapsody
The greatest strength of Bohemian Rhapsody is Rami Malek's incredible transformation into Freddie Mercury. He captures Mercury's confidence, vulnerability, stage presence, and larger-than-life personality without making the performance feel like a simple imitation. Malek brings enough emotion and humanity to show both the superstar on stage and the complicated person behind the music.
The film utilizes the power of Queen's catalog. Songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and Somebody to Love are used effectively, creating an extremely entertaining and crowd-pleasing experience. The recreation of Live Aid is easily the highlight, with the attention to detail, energy, and performance capturing why that moment became legendary.
The biggest weakness is that a movie about one of rock's most unconventional performers follows a very conventional biopic formula. Overall, the performances and music make Bohemian Rhapsody an enjoyable celebration of Queen's legacy.
