I enjoyed this film far more than I expected to. Martin McDonagh expertly uses Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson) to explore a common issue in long-term relationships that is rarely portrayed well in film or literature: boredom.

What begins as a simple falling out gradually becomes a compelling and often darkly funny examination of loneliness, purpose, and resentment. Barry Keoghan's portrayal of Dominic Kearney was the standout performance for me and the best work I've seen from him in his career. Farrell and Gleeson were excellent as expected, but Keoghan brought an extra layer of humanity to the film.

It's a shame this didn't win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. I thought The Banshees of Inisherin was a more tightly structured and compelling story than Everything Everywhere All at Once, and McDonagh's script was among the strongest and probably my favorite of 2022.
