Phantasm
This one, is one that gets better on you after subsequent viewings, but only with time between them. You watch it the first time, and your like "eh, that was neat i guess", but it lingers in your brain and draws you back in, the imagery and tone not first consciously noticed, especially if your first viewing is in your youth. and so it lingers till enough events trigger you to think about it again, and you decide you dont quite remember how good it was but you feel the itch to see it again, maybe 2 years after the first.
And its even better this time. and then the cycle repeats. and by the 3rd viewing its one of your favorites. Or, maybe thats all my anecdotal experience,
But that certainly lends to its nature as a kind of abstract nightmare you have going to bed high after watching horror flicks, but in film form.
Theres a certain amount of camp, but its subtle, a high amount of effort and brave ambition for the level of film it is in its creativity and ballsy to be so weird narrative.
It really is a sort of 80s themed gothic horror ever so slightly semi exploitation toned fever dream,
With a motherfucking sweet ass 71 plymouth Cuda. (godDAYUM that is a sexy beast)
Good time sober, a film that grows on you after several viewings,
and a strong suggest too if you enjoy a bit of substance abuse, seams made for it.
Also the soundtrack is KILLER.
