when two heads of the cannon films had a creative and financial falling out, they both wanted to latch onto any fad and craze sweeping global markets: some of the time they made Breakin' (1984) that was a multi-racial hip hop / breakdancing musical (that was a box office smash). Most of the time they made shit like this : make a script in 10 days, shoot in 20 days and do post-production in 10 days, and try to be the first lambada film on the market for quick attempt to capitalize on the brief but intense craze. Lambada was quickly produced and finished shooting just 8 days prior to release, Lambada released on the same day as its rival film The Forbidden Dance.

This is bad music movie, because if you remove the lambada music (for which they didn't have the rights to) this is a urban east-LA underprivileged kids need encouragement to pursue a high school diploma. By day, Kevin Laird is a respected schoolteacher in Beverly Hills. By night, he slips away to a gritty warehouse in East Los Angeles and encourages the local youths in maths and english lit. in an improvised backroom classroom behind a undeground club.

And with the help of this white passing latino high school maths lecturer who believes in these kids, they go onto having careers in STEM fields. The finale is a school academic super quiz where the priviledged kids of yuppies go head to head against the East LA latino kids. No sexy dancing, no lambada and certainly no sense. How anyone can say "this was the better of the two lambada movies" is wrong.
Mini Review: The worse of the two lambada movies. No sexy dancing, no solving of societal problems through sexy dancing. A lukewarm hey everyone let's party message in the embarrassing script.
