Are they for real? The original storyline has been transformed into a boring TV drama, especially after episode 5. Secondly, the ESG is strong in this one. Gays, miscegenation, clownish or immature men, but cute female non-white scientists who keep flapping their mouths to create the illusion of intelligence. Not to mention the abundance of plotholes.

The book is of Chinese origin, a badly written (according to Chinese) party approved work selling the United Nations as usual. There's no overarching theme that consistently provokes religious contemplation. Yet this series implemented a God-angle. The intent is to associate it with futility and evil. Because that's what main stream media does.

Also the ending is... there IS no ending. The season just suddenly stops. The original book ends by leaving you with existential dread: the realization that something is coming. The TV series leaves you with "wtf? Where's the rest of the season?".

I strongly suspect the viewership was worse than they projected.
Mini Review: It started well but soon somebody spilled coffee over the script and so they conjured up a soap opera script or something.
