Frankenstein
Maybe my favorite Frankenstein adaptation after Bride. Genuinely the saddest iteration of -- imho -- the saddest character ever created, now experiencing the horrors of late capitalism. Soaked in blood, wandering in an evil world designed to reject and hurt him -- it's just what they do to anyone who 'doesn't fit' --, to not let him have anything remotely good -- not even a dog. Absolutely love the use of Shelley's prose and the precise modernization applied to characters -- Todd's blind bluesman is absolutely MVP -- and passages. Impressive what Rose achieves in terms of imagery with such a thin budget. Gore feels nearly tactile. Body horror made with so much agony on screen. And what a physical performance by Samuel.
