As expected, way too many talking heads describing the greatness and impact of what Sly created. But it still manages to pack truly special moments when we get to hear artists providing geeky bits about the raw sounds of 'Riot' and the use of drum machine, for example, or his years as DJ/producer and how that period forged and shaped his ear to create both personal and socially resonant hits and Sly's chaotically obsessive and organized approach to songwriting, recording and creative process as a whole. He's a true underrated genius who could genuinely craft some of the catchiest music ever by actually navigating the hardest path towards them, scrambling different voices, genres, moods and instruments and coming up with something completely not just new, but unique. So it left me wanting more of these 'little' details and less of the talk of cultural impact and legacy, which is undeniably part of this conversation, but perhaps belongs to a documentary with a broader scope.
