being young, beautiful, desperate and restless in a place defined by neocolonialism's past and present contradictions. one of cinema's coolest outlaw couples. it's definitely not very common to encounter a film so brazen, brutal, abrasive, sad and poetic, sometimes all those moods and vibes -- and a bit more -- dancing and clashing during the same scene. it's also quite unbelievable what mambéty achieves with his gallery of dissonant soundscapes and images that feel both crude and imaginative, somewhere between euphoria and desolation. as will carper has written, an unique picture about home -- wanting to escape it and forever being tied to it.
