I Know What You Did Last Summer

This movie is so 90s it hurts. Fresh off Scream (one of my favorite slasher movies), Kevin Williamson tries to make a more straightforward urban-legendy slasher flick, and... just makes a generic slasher flick in the process. I do enjoy think the cast in this movie does an okay job with the movie, but the characters are so boring and unlikeable. It might be unfair to compare this movie to Scream, which serves more as a deconstruction of the genre instead of playing it straight with modern flair like this one does, but Scream manages to at least still have decent scares and writing, while this one has neither. It feels like any number of generic late 90s, early 2000s romcoms in style, just built on top of a formulaic slasher movie. There's nothing about this film that isn't done better in countless other movies before it.
