The Road to El Dorado

My god, the animation is phenomenal. So many frames and subtleties even when characters are just standing still. God, it makes me miss 2D animation knowing what you can do with it. This movie is an amazing example of that. The characters are well-written with unique personalities that rebound off of each other naturally. The interactions between characters was done in a way that flows well with the plot progression and development. The humor was was good; it got a decent amount of laughs out of me whether it was from the quirkiness or the (in)competence of the characters. The weakest part of the movie, though, was the music. There was one song in the second act that I thought was alright, but the lyricism just seemed like a clunky mess and didn't really fit with the general dialogue style of the movie. There were also a few questionable decisions made that seemed out-of-character. Overall, this is an amazing movie that really demonstrates what animators are capable of when you give them time to do their jobs while still having a compelling story with witty banter with a duo that maintains their chemistry throughout. Highly recommended.
