Tron: Ares

God damn, this movie was horrible. The music was intrinsically a mixed bag, but the grit just didn't really fit the movie very well most of the time and the main theme is just generic hype bait that just so happens to have that Nine Inch Nails touch. There were no good or even okay jokes from anyone, especially the supposed comic relief. Hell, the comic relief had virtually no business being in this movie because he contributed nothing at all. So many people are so fucking stupid and do and say stupid shit practically other second, there's one character who's sole purpose is to just say that everything that Julian does is stupid, and the acting is subpar at best. Dillinger Systems being established as a 40-year old competitor to ENCOM makes no sense when they weren't mentioned anywhere in the original movie or even Tron Legacy. Plus, the only Dillinger that made a very brief appearance in Legacy was working for ENCOM, which makes this establishment even more confusing. Speaking of Legacy, why did this movie completely throw away the opening that the last one made for this one? The last one ended with Sam and Quorra supposedly going out to "change the world" somehow. But then this movie just opens with Sam stepping down as chairman of ENCOM "for personal reasons" and took Quorra with him. So they're both nowhere to be seen now amd in their place is some random unrelateable chick who has the generic "uplift humanity" crap that slop like this has because god forbid you disagree with the good guy on something.
Man, they just did not give a God damn with this one. The only reason this isn't a 1/10 is because despite it just being cheap nostalgia bait (y'know, since the floppy disc containing the permenance code was just magically wiped from existence), they really nailed the aesthetic and even the music of the original Grid. Outside of that, this movie was a mistake.

Mini Review: Man, they just did not give a God damn with this one. The only reason this isn't a 1/10 is because of the usual modern Grid aesthetic design and, despite it just being cheap nostalgia bait (y'know, since the floppy disc containing the permenance code and even the orange tree that was made for testing and confirmation purposes were just magically wiped from existence, apparently), they really nailed the aesthetic and even the music of the original Grid. Outside of that, this movie was a mistake.

This follows suit with the other movies of being style over substance. With this one, though, I don't find myself hating it like I assumed I would. All of the st...

I won’t pretend otherwise: I liked it. Quite a lot. Much more than Tron: Legacy, which always felt visually stunning but emotionally distant to me. This time there’s more drive,...

I re-watched the original, which didn't resonate in its time, yet is advanced thinking, consciously or not. Whereas Legacy is too wordy but at least plays within the grid, Ares ...
