Tron: Legacy
The aesthetic style of The Grid looked really cool, but it didn't really seem to fit as a world inside of a computer like the first movie's did as much as a cyberpunk world that takes place in the very distant future. The action was very dull and uninteresting. It introduces concepts of action, but does practically nothing with them in the hopes that you would turn your brain off in their presence. The acting was a mixed bag. Some of the characters' choices were very questionable. For example, what reason did CLU have to pretend to be Sam's dad when they first met? Just to fuck with him? Why would CLU send a message to Adam if he planned on using Sam to lure out Kevin for his disc to escape into the real world? Did he know that Adam would send Sam instead? And how come Kevin is the only one eating food during his time in the Grid? Assuming that Quora does his grocery shopping for his safety, why don't we see her or any of the programs eat anything? Do they even eat at all? We only ever see them drink that power fluid stuff. The story was very barebones. It tried to say something about the uncertainty of perfection, but it seemed like it just shoehorned in the family dynamic just because that's what Disney just does now because it just feels agreeable. The Kevin Flynn that I'm familiar with didn't seem to have this much of a fascination with perfection. He liberated the original grid by essentially injecting his own humanity into it as if he already knew that perfection wasn't a set-in-stone concept that had only one definitive method. It's almost like he's a different character altogether in this movie. The soundtrack was definitely the best part of the movie and no, it's not because Daft Punk. It had a memorable theme that could be repurposed to fit multiple scenarios and moods and it the rest of the music fits the aesthetic style of the movie really well. It's the only movie that I ever purchased the soundtrack for and that's saying something. Honestly, I don't see myself remembering anything else about it.
Mini Review: The aesthetic style of The Grid looked really cool, but it didn't really seem to fit as a world inside of a computer like the first movie's did as much as a cyberpunk world that takes place in the very distant future. The action was very dull dull and uninteresting, not to mention mostly inconsequential. The acting was a mixed bag. Some of the characters' choices were very questionable.
