The film The Confession was made for a soy Western audience that hasn't even read a Jack London book.
The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia is jailing and beating people? Well, it must be the fault of cartoonish communists from Moscow, of course!
An evil communist is torturing a man in prison? Well, naturally, this isn't because over 30 million people, including civilians, perished in the Eastern countries, so we are supposed to somehow feel pity for the protagonist during those harsh times. The poor party official who is gorging himself and riding around in a private car while other people are trying to recover from a total war. I am one hundred percent going to feel sorry for him (not).
The protagonist's wife renounces her husband so as not to create problems for her children and their future? Oh, the bloody system forces people into silence and won't let the truth be told... Seriously? Common sense is portrayed as something negative in this situation. It's absurd.
The entire narrative of the film is just stupid propaganda trying to open your eyes to the equally stupid propaganda of the opponent.
Their bloody Gulag! Our Western Stammheim prison!
Their bloody repressions and purges! Our free cleansing of society from criminals by "suiciding" undesirables with 15 point-blank shots!
Their bloody political regime, where you are just a cog in the machine! Our freedom-loving government backed by local elites, where you are stripped of everything for supporting the opposition!
What is the point of such propaganda if they themselves use the exact same methods as the "enemy", simply slapping different labels on themselves? Overall, it’s a stupid and heavy-handed piece of work. I strongly do not recommend it.
