A Young Doctor's Notebook is part of Radcliffe initial foray away from the family friendly territory occupied by Harry Potter. A dark comedy, the 8 episodes over 2 series are a mixture of cringe-worthiness, unnecessary gore, the maturation of hubris. The acting is good, Radcliffe shows he has range; and the writing is clever balancing slapstick, with black humour and drama. Not to everyone's taste, but it's good and it's different.
