The cynicism of on-camera Hitchcock is even more bracing today. You think Jordan Peele (David Fincher?) could get away with making a deadpan crack about the importance of wall-to-wall carpeting after an episode in which two women die from slipping on throw rugs? Wouldn't even be able shit on Visa or Apple once, let alone every sponsor every show. The plot wrap-ups took the cake. "Necessary gestures to morality" that all but ridiculed those to whom such gestures held meaning. This guy, I tell ya.

Excellent anthology narrowly edged by The Twilight Zone.

I absolutely loved watching reruns of this when I was kid. Repeat viewings as...a bigger kid reveal that the quality of writing was highly variable, but the productions were always solid. At its best, this was very good indeed, but many of them were quite silly.
