Workmanlike telemovie that does a fair job of conveying the fear that must have been felt by the trapped miners. The inclusion of the Richard Carleton subplot was an error of judgment, and in general the suffusion of Channel 9-ness throughout the film suggests a rather too insular focus from the television producers responsible, as though what really fascinates them (or what they falsely imagine will or ought to fascinate audiences) is themselves.

Fine (if uninspired) depiction of the mine collapse in Beaconsfield, which benefits largely from two excellent performances from Hulme and Jacobson. Overly reminiscent of the earlier, more successful HEROES MOUNTAIN, and suffers from an irrelevant, unfocused subplot involving Richard Carleton (not helped by Vizard's performance uncomfortably reminiscent of FAST FORWARD), but overall fares quite well as far as these sort of telemovies go.
