A juggling act between historical exposition, dramatic narrative, cinematic presentation and the massive weight of a genuine tragedy. It all works out about as well as you'd expect but does take a step in the right direction in a way. It manages to convey a deep sense of frustration and despair over the dismantling of ethnic identity and human dignity without excessive victimization or brash oversimplification. A culturally progressive mess of a film.

Interesting enough, but felt somewhat shallow. It seems like it would've worked better as a 4- or 6-hour mini-series.

The story was how Indians agree the reservation and the truce with white man to have peace and after that white man wanted the very same land back becaue it was filled with gold. They wanted to wash their hands and offer the new truce. Honour against greedyness. Important story but the output was a bit sluggish and wandered out of the path. Haven't read the book though.

This movie did a very good job condensing the Brown book onto the big screen....recommended.

This was a dissapointing adaptation of the book by Dee Brown. It did not do justice to the times or the book and therefor did not do justice to the Native American viewpoints. Read the Book and try to forget this movie.
