Subtle it ain't, but at least the sledgehammer is used for good. Looks and feels every bit like the TV show it is, elevated by the star power involved--especially Ben Gazzara, who almost makes the speechifying sound spontaneous (almost). And Peter Sellers=genius. Some ancient history: I played an arrangement of Henry Mancini's theme music in band about 8 years after this aired, never knowing where the hell it came from until relatively recently. It's lovely enough to stick with you for decades.

Excellent TV movie, written by Rod Serling. A Christmas Carol with a twist, modernized anti-war version.

A totally-not-subtle Christmas Carol, focusing on the socio-political aspects rather than the ethical-spiritual of the original. It's not bad; it's just that it's so heavy-handed and you know exactly where it's heading that there aren't many surprises when you finally get there (although Sellers qualifies as an odd interlude).

Oh silly me, thinking this was just a jolly 1960’ made for tv christmas movie, not realizing it was written by the creator of The Twilight Zone and with the magnificent performance of motherfucking Dr.Strangelove, I mean, THE IMPERIAL ME, with its glittery cowboy hat. Poignant, political, absolutely fantastic dialogue with confrontational imagery. A true “christmas” classic
