Although it doesn't penetrate too far beneath the surface, this documentary episode about syncretistic religion in the Caribbean islands and Central America possesses those Herzogian virtues which consist in a willingness to start from what one doesn't know rather than what one does, a frankness about the historical violence to be found on all sides, and an openness to the idea of the sacred.

Does an admirable job of capturing the confusing, confused nature of religious worship. While it's not as revealing about the utter absurdity of religion as Herzog's documentary Pilgrimage, this is still quite a sight to see. The only real problem with this is that it feels more like a television documentary than a Herzog film... because that's exactly what it is. It also drags a bit, though its short running time of about 45 minutes keeps it watchable. It's also got some pretty nice music.
