Clannad: After Story

This is the best sequel - it’s an improvement, as it avoids the awkward, truncated story arcs seen in other series of this genre, focusing instead on refining the secondary plotlines. Honestly, I can’t think of a story that feels more grounded, human, and centered on family. There’s also a special one-episode prologue included at the end, which is actually quite good.

I'd watch the initial series 1st (Clannad 2007 NOT the movie) as, though it's 2 classes below this, it's decent and provides a grounding for this. Unusual in that this anime is actually a lot about married life and children. One ep, involving a gang, is awful. NOTE there is a strong fantasy element here that upset many viewers. IMHO you can rationalise that so it still makes sense but that is just my opinion. One of the most affecting animes I have watched...for some that will mean over the top
