Seems to this viewer to check off a list of troubles of belonging rather than really pursuing any particular themes, as well as being essentially plotless, with the result that the attempts at comedy, which are broader than in the first series, rapidly become tedious. It also lacks the affecting relationship between Quinquin and Eve, and, while Jenny is a somewhat interesting character, this is because of her relationship to her father more than to Coincoin, and doesn't really develop. Weak.

The absurdity of P'tit Quinquin was meat on top of substantial bones. Here the silliness is 3rd rate mince.

One thing at least is undeniable: Dumont has developed a really unique cinematic language with this TV project and this is something really rare to come across. It's a bit reminiscent of Kira Muratova (I am not talking about Asthenic syndrome, but her later lighter works), but I doubt Dumont is familiar with her works. The light comic story perfectly matches the weirdness of the actors. Personally, I was hypnotized. Makes me want to watch again P'tit Quinquin (and finish it this time, damn it!)
