De två saliga

A woman with a persecution complex (perhaps due to a strict religious upbringing) feels the suffering of a world gone awry, becoming increasingly paranoid, while her husband becomes co-dependent, to the point of sharing her psychosis and ultimately a suicide pact – leaving the audience to ponder what counts as real love. This kind of material may have seemed new in 1962 when the novel was published, but, while the tragedy is affecting, by 1986 it feels a bit like it's all been done before.

Harriet Andersson får ett mentalt sammanbrott, och visst är det svårt att inte dra kopplingar till Såsom i en spegel, men filmerna i sig får nog anses spela i helt olika divisioner.
