An interesting but ultimately failed attempt to satarise an/many overdone genre(s). Ep1 is bog standard, then a huge twist arrives in ep2 (the representations of which are totally different but end up looking silly) but then as the series proceeds it all sorta goes back to generic humans-overcome-all-odds. Nice animation when it tries.

Deca-Dence has a twist very early on that gives it an interesting and original sci-fi premise, but that presents a problem: not spoiling too much, we now have two narrative "worlds" that are stylistically and tonally disparate, and reconciling that is hard. And while for the most part it does manage to move past that, it builds to a generic (albeit fun) climax that also doesn't fit the complexity previously presented. The main character deserves a better plot, and an arc that doesn't peter out.
