When I say this is silly and goofy I'm not just talking about the effects or the men in suits I'm talking about the story, score, direction, all of it.

Pretty bad movie overall with rough acting, but i'll give it extra credit for great make-up and costumes.

Tv-movie worthy in 1972, but, despite a striking lead creature design & a very late-in-the-game threat of possible rape, none of this holds up as horror or even suspense (there's a NON-monster car chase!) The creatures (which at least are smartly shot in slo-mo) have giant claws they rarely use & even though the leader's smart enough to lie about their threat, you can't help feel bad for the destruction of their offspring since they're so outgunned & the lead "hero" keeps stealing their things.

This is one of a handful of network-TV fright films to earn a legit cult rep. Among the cast, Casey literally stands tall as the gargoyles' winged, English-speaking chieftain.
