One of the weaker entries into the Blues boxset but still features some good archive footage. Far too much mutual back-patting between musicians and producers - you're the best no you are.

Out of the 'Blues' series, this does suffer from a lack of depth (and pointless black-and-white photography), but it's still worth seeing for the great music talked about.

The story of Chess records is essential music history and Marshall Chess along with the other subjects bring a tight insider perspective to this telling. However the film as a whole gets kinda consumed by these insider perspectives & lacks its own voice. By functioning as an echo chamber for repetative & patronising "remember when" sentimentality & backslapping it does an unintentional a disservice to the people in it & the whole subject matter of transition of musical ideas across generations.
