Going Postal

Thanks to Pratchett the plot is great and although it's fairytale it's damn great. As I recall all Pratchett's adaptations were among best eventhough they are "TV movies". Aside the story, the character of A.B. Dearheart has really stole my heart. Here I should also point out C. Foy contribution in her vivid impersonation. And her dirty talk to a horse.

First of all, I love Discworld books. Have not read this one though and found it very charming and warm. Coyle is so funny to watch in almost any context. A well executed and loyal adaptation and I'm looking forward to watch the other two.

Richard Coyle is perfect in the role of the incorrigible Lipwig, and he is surrounded by scene-eating support, delightfully tactile sets, and a clacking good plot. Costuming also deserves a tip of the winged hat, while Adora Belle Dearheart deserved somewhat better writing ("gentlest touch" is a cruel con). Fun!

I love all the references to the actual work at the real Post Office, they are so true... Characters are very likeable - his character is developing, she's smart and sexy and Pump 19 is just adorable. The old man and pins collector are also both ok. The ending, although educational, is a little too optimistic but in general the plot development is possible. The setting is incredibly well made. In my opinion, Claire Foy's acting skills were the best and her character is my fav hero in this movie.

I've enjoyed all the adaptations of the Discworld books so far. "Going Postal" is a nice afternoon's watch. It's a bit darker than some fare, but then again, so are the books. The world of Ankh Morpork is consistent in mood and architecture, and for that alone, the filmmakers deserve some credit. I prefer "The Hogfather", but this is one solid entry in a growing canon.

Ignore the book, and - for what it is - it's a pretty good fantasy film, complete with medevil town, steampunk-type tech, sinister antagonist/villain, and... Death (yes, with a capital 'D').
