This is coming from someone who had no knowledge of the books this is based on. Fairly interesting piece of work set in gothic times with good visuals and no problems with the acting. My biggest beef is it ends up feeling somewhat soap opera-ish.

I appreciated that the word "obsequious" shows up twice in this movie given that I learned the word by reading Gormenghast.

The production occasionally lacks and it's paced like a runaway train, but it's very entertaining and nearly every role is well-cast. This is not quite the adaptation Peake's atmospheric, glacial Gothic pastiche deserves, but I'll take it.

Sadly ignored when released, this was pretty darn good actually.
