I'm so fascinated by cults, but this was a bit of a letdown and I couldn't really tell you why. The ex-members they have provide a good picture, especially since some of them still believe in the underlying tenets of the cult. But there's just something missing here that makes it feel more like a tv documentary than the high-quality docs I've come to expect over the last 10 or so years.

Truly disturbing account of a cult through the years, from the initiation as some kind of New Age-ish Christian-UFO independent group to a desperate band of outsiders led by suicide by a leader who thinks he's simply Jesus Christ reincarnated. Talking heads, archival footage and forgettable animated bits to represent real-life situations, but the result is actually powerful documentary filmmaking, despite the lack of a proper formal novelty.
