The Chimera Ant arc seems to me like bad guys vs even worse guys with the latter being the main characters. I was unsure of the writer's motive - am I supposed to cheer for this? It seemed to me that the good guys' mission moved from intending to eradicate an entire species in a foreign nation dedicated to nature conservation at all costs, to attempted genocide of intelligent life and making no distinctions between enemy combatants and witless civilians to justify vengeance.

Really good

Set the standard for which other shonen routinely fail. The power system is perfect. The characters have depth and personality. The story shows a sense of humanity totally absent in shonen genre.

Absolutely love this series! The plot is amazing full of adventure, entertaining, the characters are fun, a lot of personal development, and the music always elevates my mood! It may look like a happy series directed to children, but when you watch it you’ll realise that the show has much more to offer to all age groups. This show has also impacted me positively in my daily routine as it has introduced me to meditation and many learning opportunities. I value this series wholeheartedly!

I was under the impression that this was a series that transcended its genre and was something of a masterpiece. For me, it did not come close to matching those expectations. The writing is par for the course, filled with the cliches of the genre that grind my gears. The world building and art style feels unfocused. The series does have two great antagonists; Hisoka and Meruem. It is when focusing on them the show shines and the last episode with Meruem I'd consider an actual masterpiece.

Absolutely brilliant. If you let yourself be discouraged by the lively colors, the young cast of characters, or the apparently generic story -- the loss is all yours.

How come that only after 33 years I came to the ultimate paradise of superb characters and storyline. Everyone should watch it.

A mostly decent adventure series, combining goofy fun with some darker overtones, up until around half way through when it starts trying to be really serious and dark and jumps the shark harder than almost anything else I've seen. We're drowned in an excess of plotting and characters not worth caring about. The pacing meanwhile becomes so slow and the darkness becomes so overstated that it's alternately tedious and laughable. Poor execution of a repugnant tonality. Dropped.
