Katla

The combination of something too unthinkable and people who are boringly ordinary and mundane makes the former seem artificial and completely without suspense. The music tells you when to feel the hair-raising mystery, but you feel it as much as a dead horse would gallop if you whipped it hard enough. After the first episode, I'm out.

Bleak and highly atmospheric with emphasis on the human drama.

Good story with avarage acting.

Very much overdoes its very similar revelations that seem to come identically at the end of almost every episode, and contains a frustrating amount of non-communication between characters. The way in which doppelgängers symbolise relations to the past, mourning work left undone, and so on strains a bit too hard for significance, so that the soap operatic elements tend to overshadow everything else without being all that interesting. Still, Iceland's volcanic landscape is appealingly desolate.
