Les misérables

Beautifully wrought mini-series adaptation still feels a little rushed in its earlier stages (even at 6 hours) but is fired by a terrific cast, especially ideally cast Depardieu and Malkovich in the leads, and the power of the underlying story, which remains fascinating as always.

Depardieu does't fit in compared with the unforgettable prestation by Lino Ventura. He was already just too famous, too playing himself and too fat.
