Murderbot

Skarsgard reprises his emotionally vulnerable, yet otherworldly persona he developed as Eric the Vampire and it works well in this new context. The stakes are never set that high, so it all feels very 'family friendly', but still, it was diverting enough.

It's only slightly better than average. The main character is very annoying. Overall, though, it has good enough cliff-hangers and pace to keep me hooked.

This Apple TV series has a promising premise of a biological robot seeking freedom. However, this murderbot is the only white character, the hedonism of the hippy crew disgusts him, and he fantasizes about mass-killing them all. Hmm. My review is based on only the first two episodes, but it's obvious that this conservative murderbot will learn to accept and even love his diverse, polyamorous, bisexual and homosexual crewmates.

Funny, creative, great characters, dialogue is very good, and so is the plot.

Why not? I mean, it resonates with current events: what differentiates a human from an AI? Aside from that, the plot is predictable, and the characters' reactions are sometimes quite improbable.

The identity politics in this were a bit too much for me. Like, lesbian couples, effeminate men, and a subtle pushing for a certain type of futuristic society? Naw, I don't think so. I liked Skarsgard in the lead, but even that seemed less interesting as the episodes went on. It was fine because it was short, but it wasn't interesting enough to keep me around for a second season.
