A smug, elitist show with an unlikable battle-axe for a lead. No thanks.

I guess this will forever be associated with having an allegedly real Vice President discuss the morals of a fictional sitcom character as though she were a real person, though I don't think I saw any episodes from that period. It is possible that this program was not at all good, or that it became increasingly self-important, and that I am overlooking and forgetting its problems because my mind is clouded by my awareness of the fact that the attractive star was also Mrs Louis Malle.

I quite liked this back in the day. I know it amused me then, though I don't know if it would hold up as well to my post-Seinfeld standards. I'm still sure of my appreciation for the tough-looking, even abrasive eponymous career-woman protagonist. People want to see softer-spoken and more dainty-looking women on television, which is why one criticker reviewer calls her "an unlikable battle-axe". But the show's lack of qualms about intimidating men is just what I like about it.
