Timely look at a defining era in Eastern Europe. Each nation free from the Curtain seems to be returning to a new/old heritage blend. Each too holds onto that Iron page in their history books as a reminder of what not to return to. Well, all except Kaliningrad Oblast.

Similar to "Pole to Pole" in that it is less visually stimulating/entertaining than say, "Himalaya" or "80 Days", yet presents a glimpse of a fleeting era. With this series Palin captures the peak of the European experiment before the financial crisis, when it was assumed that cooperation and integration would bring the continent together. Would be interesting to see whether Turks today would even want to be in the EU if they had the chance.
