Vincent the Dutchman

A more human representation of van Gogh than most: where most attempts get hung up on the end of the story and work backwards, and consequently struggle to find ways of showing the painter’s genius/madness, here the suicide is barely mentioned, and even the significance of the ear is played down somewhat, instead relying heavily on Vincent’s letters. The result is a more coherent glimpse into his life, made with a genuine feeling about the artist, and about the relationship between art and life.
