The earliest episodes are very good. Sullivan's writing was at its peak and as a glimpse of working-class life in London it was masterfully crafted. The quality remains actually pretty high until the late 1980's and series 6/7. Not many sitcoms could easily carry an hour's runtime, but OFAH did comfortably. The quality declines rapidly through the 90's specials. Finally, with its social insight gone, by the time the final specials aired in the early 2000's the show was terrible.

Started well, first couple of seasons had a socialist spin and dealt with race, policing, employment and inner city living under Thatcher. Gained massive popularity the more bloated and banal it became, really awful by the end.
