I perceived the acting as bizarrely bad: i thought the camera would zoom out to show a theater audience or someone would scream 'cut' as to depict we're watching the recording of a soap opera or bouqeut costume drama. But it's real. These a-list actors are actually doing this. Laughed for a while but then had to turn it off.. maybe later when i'm in more of an Edwardian accidental-pastiche kinda mood? What am i missin here?

Ugh. So needlessly melodramatic & sappy. :( What a waste of Miranda Richardson.

Beautiful. First, bravo Tom Stoppard for his extraordinary writing and shaping of the material. And the actors all rise to the occasion. Benedict Cumberbatch captures every nuance of the entirely honorable--if not always likable--hero. Rebecca Hall gives a virtuoso performance, making his clever, willful, and capricious wife almost sympathetic. And yet, the wonderful Janet McTeer, though she doesn't have very many lines, struts off with every scene in which she opens her mouth.

brilliantly nuanced, visually stunning and filled with breathtaking performances. i connected so deeply with it and everything it had to say about the world and human nature. definitely up there as one of my favourite, if not my favourite mini series. definitely inspired to read the source material now, and even someday take the format into my own hands.
