Representing the Bronx, Abel Ferrara has been churning out independent cult classics set in the Big Apple ever since 1979's Killer Driller. His films are usually set in an evil, gritty NYC and his protagonists, such as Harvey Keitel's Bad Lieutenant, are not necessarily good guys.

On the whole, it's fairly mediocre. The majority of the stories aren't that remarkable. They mostly have a "hey, imagine that" kind of ring to them, but the sum of them all manages to be less than the parts.

Dreary, seemingly endless (even at 80 mins) series of stories which claim to be from "real life" and doesn't it show: none of the tales have a convincing dramatic arc, and the lack of an overall point of view means that even the relative best of them (eg. the climactic segment featuring Hines and Heche) register no dramatic impact at all. A talented cast does its best with the dreck handed to them, but no-one is really able to make much of an impression.

Suffers the same fate as basically every compilation movie: some of the bits work, some don't. Not much more to say than that.
