Sybil

Sally Field does an amazing job, and the whole thing is endearingly 70's. A short three hours. I actually think they could have successfully kept it up longer if they wanted to, perhaps into a full blown miniseries.

Interesting story, but it's blah in the way that '70s TV productions so often were. Also, I really really really don't recommend, if you have one or more abusive parents, being passive about it, letting Mom destroy you, then spending ten years in the booby hatch getting your head back together

I know this isn't a great movie, but I like me some psychiatric drama. The thing that irks me most is that Sybil's mother is presented as a severe, frumpy old woman, but in the book she's described as quite beautiful and flirtatious. It's a cheap ploy to make her more unlikeable, something that's hardly necessary. Also, there are some terrible lines.

Phenomenal star making performance by Field. Highly recommended.

Sally Field never got a better role than this, nor--to my knowledge--ever gave a better performance. She is fantastic, and I am not generally a fan. I saw this when it originally aired on TV in 1976, and recently saw it again for the first time since then. It is even better than I remembered it. It's very '70's, but I happen to think that's a good thing. And it's great to see NYC as it looked back when it had a soul, before it became a corporate wasteland.

Best when watched with the DSM in hand.

Em honra do centenário de Daniel Petrie. A essa altura do campeonato todo mundo já sabe que a história por trás desse filme é uma manipulação mútua entre psicanalista e paciente, quase uma Folie à deux racionalizada da paciente histérica para cair nas graças na psicanalista e desta para ganhos profissionais. Mas enfim, o que interessa aqui mesmo é o tour de force eternizado por Sally Field. DVDRip no MakingOff.

Great film.

This is a hell of a trip to put on a classroom full of high-schoolers, but man was I ever blown away.

The film was too painful for me to watch at one go. The story is heart rending and the filmmaking is not over the top but does justice. The camera angles could have been better. However, the setting and the portrayals have been true to the times.

Chilling movie, great acting by Woodward & Field.

Field's amazing performance in this first-rate production won her an Emmy.
