The Christmas Shoes

I went in knowing it was a TV movie adaptation of an awful evangelical glurge song, and yet it exceeded my expectations for blandness and for baffling incompetence. In a movie about grief and loss, none of the actors can express human emotions, except for a few scenes where the son puts across realistic grief that's incredibly uncomfortable to watch. Nobody's motivations make sense, there are random neoliberal nonsense moments, and it's somehow more meaninglessly saccharine than the song.

The song is much more inspirational and heart wrenching.
