Production is a simple TV theater style, but it's not like there needed to be anymore for this confined play. The attraction was always going to be the first teaming of two of the grand old ones - Anthony Hopkins & Ian McKellen! And what a pair they make! A true pleasure seeing old buggers play off each other. McKellen especially in his slightly childish man-love way, trying to prepare the ill stage star for one more performance. Feels like there lacks an extra edge to really put the story over.

perfectly delivered performance, especially the whole first scene. The dresser was superb. I realized that just like in GRE you shouldn't miss even the slightest of subtle hints in a sentence, actor's job is to include the slightest of contextual setting,& has to act those out flawlessly incorporating those hints of context never ending throughout the movie, and hence when sm1 says, shift in character, there is really a shift in perception of events by the chrcter which he should act out subtly.

Good performances are the highlights of a story that is otherwise not particularly exciting or engaging. It was effective at highlighting the ravages of old age and mental decline. It's worth watching but I was not particularly excited by it.

One of those rambling plays that does not transfer from stage to screen. Demands too much for thereturn.

Doesn't try to hide it's stage roots, some good word-play and a solid cast -with an especially in-form Hopkins.
