Trevor, a painfully shy undertaker's assistant, is introduced to the more extroverted Linda by his friends. They struggle to manage a relationship due to quite how much of a social misfit Trevor is. (Summary by AutumnLily)

Often compared to Ken Loach, Mike Leigh also makes social realism-orientated films that focus on the banal conflicts of the everyday life of regular people. Most of his films are set amidst the blighted urban decay of the inner city, or amid the soulessness of suburbia. He begins projects without a script; instead, he sets out a basic premise, and lets the ideas develop through improvisation by the actors. (Wikipedia)

This is not a relatable type of introversion to me. Trevor is fearless in asking girls out and careless in overstaying his welcome but can't perform when alone with them. When offered sex, he laughs. He constantly leaves his comfort zone but refuses to reap the benefits. I'm sympathetic to not knowing the words to say but not to giggling like an idiot and bringing embarrassment upon yourself. This is more an examination of mental disability than of genuine awkwardness. It's badly overscored too

I'm not sure whether this film is painfully honest or cloyingly artificial. Anyway, I found it interesting and enjoyable enough if also admittedly a tad slight.
