Before I start criticizing, I will note two positive things: 1- beautiful cinematography 2- good performances. Now that's out of the way, oh my god this makes me furious. They will praise an imperial monster instead of give a sprinkle of understandment to the communist cause. Not an ounce of nuance here, from rightfully condemning the vile murder of the Nikolai's kids to pretending he didn't know the army he send to "dissolve" protesters was going to kill people.

The show is a semi-documentary, semi-drama. Photographed and written masterfully. Truly engaging. Watch it if you are interested in historical drama in general. I also recommend it if you are not interested in history, but happen to know little about the end of the Russian monarchy, because it is just a good story. So you can enjoy it just for the sake of the plot as well.

It's fine for someone who is being introduced to this part of history, but it doesn't get across how mindbendingly idiotic Nicholas & Alexandra were, or how charismatic/unnerving Rasputin was. Also Nicholas & Rasputin's beards look nothing like what's in the history books - latter especially looks like a cheap prop.
