Agreeable and enjoyable telling of Selznick's machinations as he attempts to find the perfect Scarlett for GWTW, though the natures of the real-life characters are toned down considerably (for 70s/80s TV), and Curtis' Selznick comes off as a little too saintly at times. There is an awkward if amusing moment when Selznick tells Cukor (Furth) that Cukor will be the object of "feminine wiles", not sure if this would have been an inside joke at the time! MAKING OF A LEGEND doco is far superior.

Selecting the right Scarlett O'Hara for David O. Selznick's Gone with the Wind was an epic in itself. The depiction of the actresses considered for the role was wonderful. The most entertaining contender for the role was Tallulah Bankhead (performed excellently by Carrie Nye). All of the other actresses were well played. Joan Crawford was even given serious consideration. The film was fun and entertaining. It should provide some insight into the background of such an epic film.

Amusing TV movie about the hunt for the Scarlett O'Hara role for the legendary movie Gone With the Wind (1939). Tony Curtis plays David O. Selznick who was unable to find a suitable actress for the much hyped part. Don't expect much from the impersonators, they are pretty bad, but even without that element they make this quite fun for a low level effort. Takes liberties with true events. What makes this enjoyable was that they just loved to poke fun at the sins of Hollywood.
