During the Second World War, a special project is begun by the US Army Air Corps to integrate African American pilots into the Fighter Pilot Program. Known as the "Tuskegee Airman" for the name of the airbase at which they were trained, these men were forced to constantly endure harassement, prejudice, and much behind the scenes politics until at last they were able to prove themselves in combat. Admirable (if safe and conservative) attempt to tell a rarely told story hurt by clear budgetary limitations (especially the over-reliance on stock footage) - creative attempts are made to combat this. Should have had more fire and anger in its depictions of on-the-ground racism and conflicts. Sold by its group of exceptional performers, with Fishburne the reliable anchor, and Gooding and Vance bringing weight in support. With more substance, Lithgow could have been a more formidable antagonist.

This movie is kind of hilarious because it abruptly and unexpectedly ends like two minutes before it should have started to get interesting. Plus, all of the battle scenes inexplicably uses real war footage, which is...tacky. Honestly, if they were going to make it so boring, they could have made it more racist.

Acceptable TV movie that played it safe. Maybe it was groundbreaking in 1995, but nowadays (2019) I'd expect deeper depictions of racism and no "good" white characters to show that not all whites are bad. Or worse, make the focus on the racist character's redemption. War footage scenes were jarring. Fav scene: Cuba Gooding Jr. pointing out they weren't going to get medals.

_Glory_ in the air. A fairly conventional movie, but the great cast puts it over. It also has the good sense to be a kickass military adventure as well as a chronicle of just how tough it once was to be black in the United States
