For a TV movie, it's pretty decent, though later it was obviously surpassed by a Kalifornia, which atmosphere-wise seems very similar to this film. A very bleak, depressing story, it's held together mostly by the actors. The courtroom drama is not handled that efficiently in the end and it feels lukewarm despite the harrowing topic of it. Brad Pitt sure has got that dirty white trash laugh down to a T.

Most telefilms are too bland. This one, if anything, may be a little too lurid. Ultimately, this film is too artless to recommend, but, once seen, the sight of Juliette Lewis as a courtesan and Brad Pitt as her sleazoid pimp can never be forgotten. I never thought I'd witness a made-for-TV movie that recalls those '70s "young people get into heaps of trouble" movies (e.g. _Macon County Line_, featuring Juliette's daddy Geoffrey Lewis) or the exploits of Charles Manson and Company
