1968 version = 95 The newer version didn't do anything for me, and I'm not sure why it even kept the same title. The 1968 version is fantastic and creepy to this day

John Hurt was good, of course; I just didn't like the cynical, nonsensical story.

The original's impact is somewhat dulled nowadays, but it remains a strong, atmospheric ghost story that still captures the imagination effectively. (Criticker doesn't currently list it.) I do actually prefer this 2010 remake though: a deeply unsettling, sad and disturbing twist on the tale.

The 2010 version and the '68 are both creepy little films with lonely, spooky atmosphere. This particular one had me worried at first because the opening scenes are shot in annoyingly tight, shaky frames, but quickly gets its act together. I actually think this is scarier than the old.
