Comedy, Drama
TV Series
This is NOT the Yu-Gi-Oh! series that was released in North America; that was Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. This earlier series has never been released in English. Yuugi is a somewhat frail young boy who happens to be a big fan of gaming of any kind. But when he solves an ancient egyptian puzzle he is granted all the powers of darkness. (myanimelist.net)

I think this series is great but I would probably only recommend it if you're already a yugioh fan, not a good introduction to the series.

If you want a darker and more adult tone to the other show, you will love this. There isn't a large focus on the Yu-gi-oh card game and instead the characters are much more focused on. Also there are many other games that are played. Yami Yugi in this series is much more mysterious and morally ambiguous. Its too bad that this show only lasted one season because I would be very interested to see how this show covers the events of Duel Monsters in this darker tone.

A show that doesn't follow the rules of its own card game... but it still succeeds at being entertaining.
